Seminar Introduction

The global COVID-19 pandemic that began in 2020 has prompted a significant reassessment of the role and importance of health insurance in society. At the same time, despite ongoing advancements in medical technology, many countries are urgently grappling with rising healthcare costs and increased health insurance expenditures. This trend is partly driven by the rapid aging of the population, and has become an urgent issue.
In light of these circumstances, we have decided to hold a training course that introduces the current state of the healthcare market, including health insurance systems, in Japan. Japan’s health insurance system is well known for its universal coverage, or “Kokumin Kaihoken” (universal health insurance system). Why is the out-of-pocket expense ratio in Japan relatively low? What kind of structure supports this system, and what challenges is it currently facing? These are some of the key questions we will explore. Participants will also learn about the role that private life insurance companies play in Japan’s healthcare landscape.
The FALIA seminar offers more than just insights into the Japanese system. With nearly 30 participants from countries across Asia, the program provides a valuable opportunity to exchange information on healthcare systems in each country. Through this curriculum, all participants will be able to build a network of professionals active in the same field across different countries and discover valuable insights to help them reflect on the future of their own nations.
This seminar is designed primarily for top executives and senior management professionals who are expected to approach their work with a broad understanding of overall business operations.
